A 39-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband in Koothanadi near Punalur, Kollam, on Monday. In a chilling move, the accused reportedly announced the crime on a Facebook Live video before surrendering to police.
The deceased has been identified as Shalini, a resident of Koothanadi. According to the police, the accused, her husband Isaac (42), attacked her with a knife at around 6:30 am as she was preparing to take a bath. The FIR states that she suffered deep injuries to her neck, chest, and back.
After the alleged crime, Isaac went live on Facebook, admitting to the murder and airing his grievances. He claimed that Shalini was disobedient and had moved to live with her mother before recently returning home. He further alleged that she had misappropriated jewellery to purchase a vehicle and expressed resentment over her employment and attendance at political party meetings.
Isaac later arrived at the Punalur police station and informed officers that he had murdered his wife. A police team was immediately dispatched to the house and found Shalini's body. The couple's 19-year-old son has lodged a complaint, and a case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police officials stated that the couple has two sons. Isaac, a Gulf returnee, worked as a rubber tapper, while Shalini was a school helper.
Police added that Shalini had started living with her mother due to Isaac's repeated assaults and had only recently moved back into their home. The body has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem, and forensic experts are currently examining the crime scene, while the mobile phones of both the victim and the accused have been seized.
