Three members of a family lost their lives after a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus collided with an autorickshaw at Vythiri in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Monday morning, police officials said.
The deceased were identified as Narayanan M A (44), his wife Shiji (46), and their 15-year-old son Amal, all residents of Pazhoor in Cheeral. The accident took place around 7 am at Kunnathidavaka near Old Vythiri along the Kozhikode road.
According to the police, Narayanan was driving the autorickshaw with his wife and son as passengers when a KSRTC high-speed long-route ‘Minnal’ bus travelling towards Mananthavady collided with the vehicle. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the autorickshaw badly damaged and all three occupants critically injured.

Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene immediately after the accident and assisted in shifting the injured family members to a nearby hospital. However, despite efforts by doctors to save them, all three succumbed to their injuries shortly after admission, police said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing grief over the loss of the family. Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the KSRTC bus driver in connection with the accident, and a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
Authorities added that the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their relatives after the completion of postmortem examinations and other legal formalities.
