Travellers from south Kodagu and parts of north Kerala will soon enjoy seamless connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) set to introduce a new inter-State Flybus service between Bengaluru Airport and Kozhikode from August 15.

The premium airport coach service is expected to provide a major boost to passenger convenience by offering a direct, comfortable and reliable mode of transport to and from the airport. The new route will particularly benefit residents of Gonikoppa, Ponnampet, Kutta and other parts of Kodagu, who currently have to depend on multiple bus or train connections to reach Bengaluru Airport.

According to a KSRTC release issued on Thursday, the service has been designed to cater not only to passengers from Kodagu but also to travellers from Mysuru, Wayanad and Kozhikode, strengthening regional connectivity between Karnataka and Kerala while providing a hassle-free airport transfer option.

The KSRTC Flybus is one of the corporation's flagship premium services and is operated using Volvo multi-axle coaches equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable journey. The buses are designed to provide a travel experience similar to that of an airline, with spacious reclining seats, air-conditioned interiors, ample luggage space and smooth long-distance travel.

Passengers travelling on the Flybus are also provided with a complimentary snack kit containing drinking water, beverages and locally sourced snacks, making the overnight journey more comfortable.

As per the announced schedule, the Flybus will depart daily from Kempegowda International Airport at 10.45 p.m. and is scheduled to reach Kozhikode at 7.15 a.m. the following morning. The return service will leave Kozhikode at 7.30 p.m. every day and arrive at Bengaluru Airport at 4.15 a.m., allowing passengers to conveniently catch early morning domestic and international flights.

The bus will operate on a carefully planned route connecting several important towns and cities. From Bengaluru Airport, it will travel via Yelahanka, Hebbal, Nayandahalli Metro Station, Mysuru, Hunsur, Gonikoppa, Ponnampet, Kutta, Mananthavadi and Kalpetta before reaching Kozhikode. The route has been selected to serve passengers from regions that currently have limited direct airport transportation options.

The introduction of the service is expected to be particularly beneficial for residents of Kodagu, a district that attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists every year but lacks direct airport connectivity. Business travellers, students, tourists and families travelling to Bengaluru Airport will now be able to avoid the inconvenience of changing buses or travelling through Bengaluru city before reaching the airport.

KSRTC has also announced the fare structure for the new service. The ticket price has been fixed at ₹1,500 for passengers travelling between Kempegowda International Airport and Kozhikode. Travellers boarding from Gonikoppa will pay ₹1,200, while the fare from Mysuru has been fixed at ₹960. Passengers travelling from Mananthavadi will be charged ₹1,350, and those boarding at Kalpetta will pay ₹1,400.

Officials said the pricing has been kept competitive considering the premium facilities offered and the convenience of direct airport connectivity.
The launch of the Kozhikode route marks another significant expansion of KSRTC's growing Flybus network, which already connects Kempegowda International Airport with several major cities across Karnataka. Over the years, the Flybus service has become a preferred choice for air passengers due to its punctuality, comfortable coaches and direct airport access without the need to navigate Bengaluru's city traffic.

With the addition of this new inter-State route, KSRTC aims to further strengthen public transport links to the airport, reduce dependence on private vehicles and provide passengers with a safe, economical and environmentally friendly travel option. The new service is also expected to enhance tourism and business travel between Karnataka and Kerala while improving regional connectivity for thousands of commuters using Bengaluru's international airport.
