KTR vows to reclaim HCU land, slams Congress over sale

KTR promises to reclaim Kancha Gachibowli land near Hyderabad Central University, build largest ecological park if BRS comes to power.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) has pledged to reclaim the disputed 400 acres of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) land in Kancha Gachibowli if his party returns to power, promising to convert it into Telangana’s largest eco-park.

Addressing a gathering at Telangana Bhavan, KTR accused the ruling Congress government of treating public land as a commercial asset and warned prospective buyers of potential financial losses once BRS reclaims the land. He vowed that the eco-park would serve as a lasting legacy for future generations and a valuable green space for HCU students and Hyderabad residents.

Launching a sharp attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR alleged that the Congress government was selling off public land for political and financial gain.

He assured that every inch of the contested land would be recovered and transformed into a world-class ecological park, drawing parallels to New York’s Central Park. He also cautioned investors against being deceived by what he described as the government’s dubious tactics.

KTR extended his support to HCU students protesting against the alleged illegal encroachment, likening their movement to the historic student-led agitations that shaped Telangana’s political landscape.

Criticising the Congress government’s inaction, he warned of a large-scale march to HCU if the decision to auction the land was not revoked.

In a scathing critique of Revanth Reddy, KTR labeled him a “real estate broker,” accusing him of prioritising land deals over public welfare. He mocked the Chief Minister’s claims of working 18 hours a day, suggesting that at least a fraction of that time should be dedicated to safeguarding Hyderabad’s environment rather than making property transactions.

KTR also took aim at Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, condemning his dismissal of concerns about the presence of wildlife on the HCU campus.

He further accused the government of deliberately deploying bulldozers on court holidays to clear land in violation of judicial directives. “Why are they carrying out demolitions on weekends despite clear orders from the High Court and Supreme Court?” he questioned.

Highlighting BRS’s track record in environmental conservation, KTR pointed to initiatives such as planting 270 crore saplings and increasing Hyderabad’s green cover by 7.7 per cent, as per the Forest Survey of India.

He credited the BRS government for turning Hyderabad into a model green city, winning both national and international accolades, while accusing the Congress of jeopardising one of the last remaining major green spaces in the city.

Emphasising BRS’s legal battles to protect the HCU land, KTR insisted that it was not up for sale. “This land belongs to the people of Hyderabad. We fought for it in court to safeguard it, not to let it be used for real estate profits,” he asserted.

He revealed that BRS MPs had raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha, urging the Centre to intervene. Stressing that this was not just a political fight but a struggle for Hyderabad’s future, he reaffirmed BRS’s unwavering support for HCU students and environmental activists.

“We will not allow Hyderabad to be turned into another concrete jungle. This land belongs to the people, and we will ensure it remains that way,” KTR declared.
