Last-minute JSSC exam cancellation triggers protests

According to an official statement issued by the commission, the examination was postponed citing “unavoidable circumstances.” The test was scheduled to be held on October 9 across various centres in the state.

News Arena Network - Ranchi - UPDATED: October 10, 2025, 12:50 PM - 2 min read

Aspirants, many of whom had travelled from other states, said they were informed about the cancellation only after reaching the examination centres, where a notice pasted on the walls announced the postponement.

In a move that left thousands of aspirants fuming, the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) on Wednesday abruptly cancelled the Jharkhand Technical/Special Qualification Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JT/SQGLCCE) without prior notice.

According to an official statement issued by the commission, the examination was postponed citing “unavoidable circumstances.” The test was scheduled to be held on October 9 across various centres in the state.

Aspirants, many of whom had travelled from other states, said they were informed about the cancellation only after reaching the examination centres, where a notice pasted on the walls announced the postponement.

A candidate from Gaya expressed frustration, saying, “If the JSSC had informed us even a day earlier, we could have cancelled our tickets and avoided unnecessary expenses. This is highly unprofessional and unfair to the candidates.”

The last-minute cancellation has drawn strong political reactions. Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led government, accusing it of repeatedly betraying the youth of Jharkhand.

In a post on X, Marandi wrote, “Once again, Hemant Soren has deceived the youth. The JSSC exam scheduled for today was suddenly cancelled citing technical glitches. Was the system not ready because the Chief Minister was in Delhi, or was it sheer negligence?”

Marandi demanded that the government ensure a transparent re-examination at the earliest and reimburse the travel expenses of the affected candidates.

Echoing similar sentiments, another former Chief Minister, Raghubar Das, also took to social media to slam the state government.

“Shame on the Jharkhand government! The Hemant administration has once again cheated students by secretly postponing the examination in the dead of night,” Das posted on X, adding that “students are growing older while this government fails to conduct even a single exam properly.”

The JSSC has yet to announce a new date for the examination.
