Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have traded barbs over poor governance, which is being blamed on the delay in restoring statehood.
Sinha said, “Poor governance and failure in administration are not because J&K has no statehood. It is due to bad leadership; using the statehood excuse is not a justifiable rationale being floated by the current government.
When asked about LG Sinha’s statement, Omar said had no idea about the statement and refused to be drawn into a war of words with LG, adding that he would respond only after going through the statement.
At SKICC, the LG said the absence of statehood for J-K cannot be used as an excuse for “underperformance”, as the elected government has all the powers.
The Chief Minister, in response, refrained to comment but assured that he would respond accordingly to what LG Sinha had said.
“First, I would like to see the words he has used, because if there is a difference in what he has stated and what you are saying, then if I say something wrong, it will not be good,” Omar said.
People of Jammu and Kashmir understand that the LG and CM’s office have significant differences when it comes to regulating the administrative affairs in J&K. The misery of the people has not yet ended despite having an elected government in place.
People have often complained about going back and forth between the LG and CM’s office for issues related to their daily lives. Locals are caught between the two power centres, which many believe is ruining the overall affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on Friday, LG Sinha said the absence of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood cannot be used as an excuse for underperformance, as the elected Government has all the powers.
