The controversy surrounding Lionel Messi’s visit to Kolkata has taken a dramatic turn, with sports entrepreneur Satadru Dutta filing an (FIR) and leveling serious allegations against former Sports Minister Arup Biswas and his wife Jui Biswas over the chaos that unfolded during the high-profile event at Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Breaking his silence after a political shift in West Bengal, Dutta claimed that the disorder witnessed during the “Messi GOAT Tour” event was not accidental but deliberately orchestrated. He alleged that influential individuals forcefully entered restricted zones of the pitch, disregarding security protocols, and created a situation that ultimately led to widespread chaos.
According to Dutta’s complaint, Jui had no authorisation to access the designated area where Messi was present, yet allegedly used her influence to enter the zone and take photographs in close proximity to the football icon. He further accused Arup Biswas of misusing his official position and VVIP status to bypass established security norms and gain access to Messi, in violation of international event protocols.
The FIR also marks the beginning of a broader legal offensive, with Dutta preparing to file additional complaints against several bureaucrats, including former Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar. He is expected to submit a formal written complaint at Bidhannagar Police Station in the coming days.
Dutta, who spent 38 days in judicial custody in connection with the incident, alleged that he was made a scapegoat and subjected to harassment as a result of what he described as “abuse of power” and “dirty politics.” He further claimed that he had received threats warning him against speaking out, which forced him to remain silent until now.
Despite the controversy, Dutta asserted that his professional reputation within the global football community remains intact. He has now announced plans to file a defamation suit seeking Rs 100 crore in damages against Biswas, citing severe social and professional losses.
In his statements, Dutta suggested that lapses in security during the event were not merely due to negligence but were intentionally allowed by certain political and administrative elements to engineer disorder and shift blame onto the organisers.
