Migrant workers who were considering heading back to their home villages due to the recent shortage of domestic gas can breathe a sigh of relief, as the district administration has stepped in with a new support scheme.
To combat the supply issues hitting households and local industry, officials have launched a relief drive offering 2-5kg "Free Trade LPG" cylinders to workers. All that is required to get a connection is a valid bit of ID, such as an Aadhaar card. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain has set up a dedicated control room at the GLADA office to handle complaints and oversee the rollout. The hub is open daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm, and anyone struggling can call the helpline on 9915155072 for a bit of help.
The control room isn't just a call centre; it’s acting as a bridge between the public, gas agencies, and oil companies to make sure domestic supply stays steady. Food supply inspectors are also out on the streets, keeping a close eye on agencies to ensure nobody is being turned away unfairly. While households are the priority, the administration is also starting to drip-feed supplies back to commercial and industrial units as stock becomes available.
To keep things transparent, sales managers have been told in no uncertain terms to prioritise domestic users. Meanwhile, business owners have to provide certificates proving exactly what they’re using the gas for, which should stop any under-the-table diversions.
The Deputy Commissioner hasn't minced his words, warning that anyone caught flouting the rules will face the full weight of the Essential Commodities Act. The whole operation is being managed by a committee led by GLADA’s Ojasvi to ensure the relief is handed out fairly.
