Police said on Monday that the municipal corporation office received an email warning of bomb blasts at the Ludhiana Mayor’s office and the ancestral residence of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh in the district.
During the search, no explosives or suspicious items were found. Police said it appears to be another hoax email. They added that security has been increased and cyber teams are investigating the origin of the email.
Police, along with bomb disposal and dog squads, reached both locations and carried out search operations at the mayor’s office and Dosanjh’s ancestral residence in Dugri.
Police said that with revised morning timings in Punjab government offices from Monday, employees had already reported for duty when the threat was received. The entire municipal corporation premises of Zone A was evacuated as a precautionary step, police added.
Officials said the latest scare comes close on the heels of similar threats in recent weeks at several places in Punjab and Haryana, which later turned out to be hoax emails. A few days earlier, some schools in Ludhiana had also received similar threat emails.
