Magisterial inquiry ordered in Shimla woman’s death

The officer has been directed to probe the matter in a free, fair and comprehensive manner in a time-bound manner and submit the report within seven days.

DC Anupam Kashyap has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a woman after a firing incident during the consecration ceremony of a newly constructed temple in Kulgaon village in Chirgaon tehsil, officials said on Tuesday.


The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla has ordered a magisterial-level probe into the death of a woman during a religious festival in the district. The inquiry officer has been tasked to examine the sequence of events which led to the firing and confirm the exact cause of death of the deceased woman.

 

DC Anupam Kashyap has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a woman after a firing incident during the consecration ceremony of a newly constructed temple in Kulgaon village in Chirgaon tehsil, officials said on Tuesday.

 

Pankaj Sharma, Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), has been designated as the inquiry officer.

 

The officer has been directed to probe the matter in a free, fair and comprehensive manner in a time-bound manner and submit the report within seven days.

 

The inquiry has been ordered by the DC under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

 

The officer has been directed to examine the sequence of events which led to the firing, confirm the exact cause of death and fix responsibility on the accused involved in the incident.

 

He is also expected to investigate whether there were any lapses on the part of the organisers of the event, including examination of possible violations of provisions under the Arms Act, 1959.

 

The DC has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty in the incident.
