In an early-morning operation on Thursday, the Ferozepur police arrested the main accused in connection with the murder of an RSS leader son, Naveen Arora, who was shot dead on Saturday evening.
Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Gursimran Singh alias Jatin Kali, near Sodhiwala in Arif Ke village, police teams cordoned off the area and set up checkpoints. When the police signalled a speeding motorcycle to stop at a naka near Arif Ke, the rider tried to escape, but was nabbed after a chase.
As the police were chasing him, the accused opened fire at the police vehicle. The police driver had a narrow escape as the bullet hit the front windscreen. The police retaliated by firing back at Jatin, who fell down after a bullet hit him in the leg. The police team overpowered him and shifted him to the Civil Hospital.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said the accused used a .32-bore pistol during the exchange of fire. “We are verifying whether it is the same weapon used in Naveen’s murder,” he said.
While three persons have been arrested in the case, the police are on the lookout for two other suspects.
