Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged people across the state to take part in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. He said eligible voters should complete the process to keep their names on the voter list and continue receiving the benefits of government welfare schemes, including the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana.
In a video message released from Bengaluru, where he is currently on a health and wellness retreat, Mann said the revision is being carried out by the Election Commission of India. He said voters only need to fill out the required form to keep their names on the electoral roll. According to him, those who fail to do so may have their names removed from the voter list and could lose access to government welfare and social security schemes.
The door-to-door verification exercise by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) began on June 25 as part of the electoral roll revision process.
On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra highlighted incidents in which Booth Level Officers were allegedly misbehaved with by public in Patiala and Barnala districts. She appealed to residents to cooperate with officials carrying out the survey.
Mann also congratulated the women of Punjab, saying his government had fulfilled its election promise by transferring financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of eligible women.
