Sporadic incidents of arson and vandalism targeting Trinamool Congress (TMC) offices were reported across West Bengal on Monday, as BJP supporters took to the streets to celebrate a decisive victory in the state assembly elections. Police confirmed that various party premises in Tollygunge, Baruipur, Kamarhati, Baranagar, Baharampur, Howrah, and Kasba were ransacked by unruly mobs throughout the afternoon.
In the Bijoygarh-Netajinagar area of Tollygunge, the election office of former minister and TMC candidate Aroop Biswas was left in ruins. Onlookers witnessed members of the crowd kicking down broken hoardings and shouting slogans before moving on. Similarly, near Ruby Crossing, the office of TMC councillor Sushanta Ghosh was stormed by a group carrying BJP flags, who left the premises heavily damaged.
The TMC was quick to condemn the violence, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that the BJP had "shown its true colours" immediately after securing power. The party alleged that "BJP goons" had orchestrated a violent assault on their Murshidabad office, describing the vandalism and chaos as a descent into "gutter politics." While the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership has largely focused on their historic win, the TMC insists these incidents represent the real face of the incoming administration.
