The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education has suspended a superintendent and ordered the immediate relocation of an examination centre in Kangra district after evidence of mass copying surfaced during the ongoing board exams, officials stated on Saturday.
The action at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Jawali in Kangra district came after reports of large-scale irregularities came to surface. Officials said video evidence showed a teacher inside the examination hall verbally dictating answers to students.
According to an official statement of the Board Chairman Rajesh Sharma, the decision was taken after the board received several complaints along with video clips alleging serious irregularities at the Jawali examination centre. The centre has now been shifted to Government Senior Secondary School, Matlahar.
The Director of School Education suspended centre superintendent Ravi Bhandari, a biology lecturer, with immediate effect. The suspension order stated that he had misused his official position, failed to maintain integrity and acted in a manner unbecoming of a government servant.
Initial investigation found that a teacher inside the examination hall was dictating answers to multiple-choice questions to several students. The board termed the incident a clear case of mass copying that seriously affects the credibility of the examination system.
The board has directed the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Jawali to conduct a detailed probe and submit a report to the board headquarters. Officials said such incidents harm the interests of hardworking and honest students.
To ensure transparency and fairness, the Jawali examination centre has been cancelled. All students who were assigned to this centre will now appear for their remaining papers at the Government Senior Secondary School in Matlahar.
A departmental investigation has also been started against the centre coordinator, centre superintendent and deputy superintendent. The board has written to the Himachal Pradesh Department of Education in Shimla, recommending strict disciplinary action against those found responsible.
Chairman Sharma said the board follows a zero-tolerance policy against unfair means and remains committed to protecting the sanctity of the examination process. He warned that anyone found guilty will face strict action so that such incidents are not repeated.
