Police in Meghalaya have arrested 15 out of 16 accused persons in connection with a murder case reported under Songsak Police Station in East Garo Hills district, officials said on Wednesday.
The case pertains to an incident that occurred on April 8 at Dagal Nachikol village under Songsak police station limits, where a local resident was allegedly attacked inside his residential compound.
Police said the victim, identified as (L) Talseng T. Sangma, was attacked by a group of individuals who allegedly entered his premises unlawfully around 11 am. The accused also allegedly issued threats to the victim’s family during the assault.
Following the attack, the victim sustained serious injuries and was taken for medical treatment. However, he died while being transported to Civil Hospital in Williamnagar.
A case was subsequently registered under case number 9/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 103(1)(2)/329(1)(3), following a complaint lodged at Songsak Police Station.

Police officials said an investigation was immediately launched after the incident. Acting on leads, teams conducted multiple operations and arrested 15 accused persons allegedly involved in the case.
One accused, however, is still absconding, and efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend him, officials added.
Authorities said all required legal procedures, including inquest and post-mortem examination, have been completed as part of the investigation process.
The East Garo Hills District Police have urged the public not to circulate rumours or unverified information regarding the case, warning that such content could hamper the investigation.
Police have also appealed to citizens to come forward with any relevant information that may assist in tracing the remaining accused and ensuring a complete probe into the incident.
Further investigation is underway.
