Meghalaya’s Minister for Education, Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday said the state government will construct around 680 new school buildings under Phase IV of the Mission Education programme, with each unit to receive about Rs 70 lakh, to strengthen infrastructure across the state.
The announcement was made at the inauguration of the Darang L.P. School building, completed under Phase III of the initiative. Rymbui underlined that the programme remains central to the state’s efforts to upgrade facilities in educational institutions.
Detailing reforms since 2018, the minister said discussions with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had identified four pillars for the sector—better infrastructure, qualified teachers, sound policy, and student development, which continue to guide interventions.
Rymbui said the Amlarem constituency is expected to receive between eight and eleven new school buildings under the forthcoming phase, a move aimed at improving access and learning conditions in the region.

During the programme, he handed over a computer classroom equipped with necessary facilities under the SRWP 2025–2026 scheme to promote digital learning among students.
The headmaster of Darang L.P. School traced the institution’s growth over the years, while the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer stressed the need to further strengthen infrastructure and academic progress in the area.
The Mission Education programme continues to anchor Meghalaya’s push towards improving access, infrastructure and quality in the school education sector.
