People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said Omar Abdullah should face the people and tell them how many election promises he has fulfilled since becoming the Chief Minister of the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, she said the CM often refers to the PDP in his public statements. “Instead of focusing on governance, he repeatedly mentions the PDP, like during the previous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” she said.
“What about the poll promises, free electricity, jobs, gas cylinders, and free rations? He made these promises but hasn’t delivered on them at all,” she added. On the issue of prisoners in Kashmir, Mufti said the PDP had tried to assist affected families.
“We approached the authorities when all doors were closed. There is a family with a blind father and a prisoner who is also blind, along with young sisters. The prisoner has been in jail for 7-8 years without a proven crime. We may have to go to the court to seek justice,” she said.
While addressing the critical issues like employment terminations during the PDP-BJP coalition government, Mufti said, “The CM recently claimed that the first signature on the termination process was mine, as I was Chief Minister at the time. What did Omar Sahib do then? He did not raise any concerns or request evidence.”
She further alleged that ministers in the present government have been focusing on securing one seat while broader governance concerns remain unaddressed.
Mufti added that the PDP had always taken steps to protect citizens’ rights and would continue to pursue legislative measures to address the problems affecting the people of the state.
