MeT office Srinagar has issued a weather alert for Jammu and Kashmir until April 16 as fresh western disturbances are likely to hit parts of the UT over the next few days.
According to the latest forecast, “UT is expected to witness thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms towards late afternoon or evening on Saturday.”
Officials at the MeT office said that brief spells of light rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places, mostly during the late afternoon or evening.
The weather is expected to remain dry on April 12, with only isolated light rain spells. Besides, clear weather conditions are expected to continue in the region for Monday and Tuesday.
Weather conditions are likely to turn bad again with scattered rain and thundershowers on Thursday and Friday.
Farming communities in the region have been advised to resume agricultural operations, with MeT forecasting a quick rise in temperature over the next few days.
In the months of March and April, Jammu and Kashmir’s rainfall deficit has come down from 55 per cent reported in February to 35 per cent within one month, owing to successive rain in the plains and snowfall over the higher reaches.
