MeT predicts rain, snowfall, gusty winds in J-K for next 48 hours

Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad Dar told reporters on Friday that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to remain cloudy with intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers in many places, particularly during morning and late evening hours, from April 17 to 19.

The strong winds on Thursday evening caused minor damages and disruptions in power supply across several areas of the Valley.


The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological office in Srinagar has forecasted a fresh spell of rain and snowfall across the region for the next 48 hours. Rains have lashed the plains while fresh light snowfall has been recorded in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, officials said.

 

Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad Dar told reporters on Friday that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is likely to remain cloudy with intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers in many places, particularly during morning and late evening hours, from April 17 to 19.

 

Besides, gusty winds reaching up to speeds of 40-50 kilometres per hour and possible hailstorms at isolated locations are likely during the same period.

He said that the weather is further expected to improve from April 20 to 24, with generally dry conditions prevailing across Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The strong winds on Thursday evening caused minor damages and disruptions in power supply across several areas of the Valley.

 

The MeT department has issued a fresh advisory to people living in upper reaches and landslide-prone zones to remain cautious, while travellers are urged to check with traffic authorities before undertaking journeys on NH-44.

 

A separate advisory urged the farming community to suspend their activities until the weather witnesses some improvement.
