Haryana Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Wednesday asked officials to make sure there is no shortage of fertilisers during the upcoming Kharif season.
He said all necessary arrangements for stocking and distributing fertilisers should be completed before the season begins. Farmers should not have to face long queues or any difficulty in getting fertilisers. The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by the minister at his office.
Senior officials from the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, HAFED and representatives of leading fertiliser manufacturing and marketing companies attended the meeting, according to an official statement.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed the existing fertiliser stock position and assessed preparedness for the coming season. He also sought suggestions from officials and company representatives on expected demand, availability, transportation and supply management during the Kharif season.
Rana instructed officials to continue distributing fertilisers through the 'Meri Fasal-Mera Byora' portal, citing its successful and transparent implementation last year. He said fertilisers should be supplied based on the crop and land details uploaded by farmers on the portal so that genuine beneficiaries receive the required inputs without any hurdles.
To protect farmers' interests, the minister asked officials to keep a close watch on the market. He warned that hoarding and black marketing of fertilisers would not be tolerated. He directed officers to regularly inspect stocks of dealers and take strict legal action against anyone found violating the rules.
Sharing his own farming experience, Rana encouraged officials to promote modern agricultural practices among farmers. He said the use of sprinkler irrigation systems and the application of fertilisers through irrigation water can help farmers save water and ensure nutrients reach the roots more effectively. This, he said, can improve both crop quality and productivity.
Representatives of fertiliser companies assured the minister that there would be no disruption in supply across the state. They also promised full cooperation in ensuring timely availability of fertilisers at the district level in line with government guidelines.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department Vijayendra Kumar, Director General Rajnarayan Kaushik, HAFED Managing Director Anish Yadav and other senior officials attended the meeting.
