Mizoram has completed the biometric enrolment of all 1,679 refugees from Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) living in the state, while the registration of Myanmar refugees has reached nearly 99 per cent, state Home Department officials said.
The final phase of the exercise covered 1,361 Bangladeshi refugees in Lawngtlai district, taking the enrolment of CHT refugees to 100 per cent. Earlier, biometric registration had been completed for 235 refugees in Serchhip district, 76 in Lunglei district and seven in Aizawl district.
Officials said the process took longer in Lawngtlai as the district also hosts the state's second-largest population of Myanmar refugees and includes several remote settlements.
Thousands of people from Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts fled to Mizoram from late November 2022 after the Bangladesh Army launched operations against cadres of the Kuki-Chin National Liberation Army (KCNA). Reports from the region indicated that civilians were also affected by the military action, forcing many families to cross into India.

The biometric registration of Myanmar refugees is also nearing completion. As of Friday, 29,247 of the 29,577 Myanmar nationals taking shelter in Mizoram had been enrolled, leaving only 330 people yet to be covered.
The exercise has been completed in seven districts -- Champhai, Aizawl, Lunglei, Siaha, Mamit, Khawzawl and Saitual. Serchhip has recorded 99.86 per cent coverage, while Hnahthial has achieved 90.51 per cent enrolment.
The biometric enrolment drive was launched in July 2025 following directions from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Officials said the remaining registrations are expected to be completed shortly, bringing the statewide exercise to a close.
