Mob opens fire on police in Ghaziabad, constable shot dead

A Noida constable was shot dead and two others injured during a mob attack on a police team conducting a raid in Ghaziabad. The team was attempting to arrest Qadir, a wanted criminal with 24 cases against him. A manhunt is under way to trace the culprits.

A constable from Noida was shot dead and two other police personnel injured after a violent mob attacked a police team attempting to arrest a notorious criminal in Ghaziabad on Sunday night.

 

According to police, the incident occurred in Nahal village under the jurisdiction of Masuri police station when a team from Noida Phase-3 police station launched a raid to apprehend a criminal named Qadir, who is wanted in multiple cases. The police were met with fierce resistance as a crowd gathered and began pelting stones at the team before opening fire.

Constable Saurabh Singh

During the attack, Constable Saurabh Singh sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed to Yashoda Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Two other policemen were also injured during the ambush and are currently undergoing treatment. Officials confirmed that their condition is stable.

 

In the aftermath, the Noida Police Commissionerate expressed grief over the constable’s death. Senior officers arrived at the scene to take stock of the situation and supervise further action. The Masuri police have registered a case under 13 sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of murder, rioting, assault, and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

 

Officials stated that the main accused, Qadir, managed to flee during the chaos. Police said that Qadir already has 24 criminal cases registered against him. Several teams have been constituted to track him down and arrest all those involved in the attack and subsequent escape.

 

"A massive search operation is under way in the region. The accused will be arrested soon and the culprits will be punished severely," police officials said.
