A tense and emotional scene surfaced in Nadia’s Molandi village on Wednesday afternoon when Trinamool Congress MLA and former IPS officer Humayun Kabir visited the family of 13-year-old Tamanna Khatun, who was killed in a tragic bomb blast incident on the day of Kaliganj by-election results that triggered statewide outrage. Although Tamanna’s mother, Sabina Yasmin — a CPI(M) supporter — broke down in tears while speaking to the MLA, her sobbing voice suddenly turned resolute when Kabir offered her an envelope of cash. “Money can’t replace my daughter,” she said firmly, rejecting the offer without hesitation.
The MLA, who represents Debra constituency, spent a considerable amount of time consoling the grieving parents at their home. Overwhelmed by sorrow, Tamanna’s mother broke down while recounting the loss of her daughter. She alleged that her child’s death was a result of targeted political violence following the election defeat, claiming that families aligned with the CPI(M) have been systematically attacked.
She also criticised the local police, accusing them of inaction. “If the police had recovered the bomb earlier, I would not have lost my child,” she said, adding that law enforcement had failed to maintain neutrality in the region.

In an attempt to offer support, MLA Kabir extended a financial envelope to the family. However, the gesture was met with fury. The bereaved mother rejected the offer outright, exclaiming, “Money can never be a substitute for my daughter’s life.”
The outburst forced the MLA to retract the envelope and instead promise to plant a tree at Tamanna’s grave in her memory. “I felt deep emotional pain after learning about this incident. I came here not as a politician, but as a human being,” said Kabir. He urged people across political lines to rise up in protest against the tragedy.
