A 25-year-old teacher from Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested for sexually assaulting and committing sodomy on at least five students, police reported on Friday.

Satyam Raghuvanshi, a social science teacher at a private school in Vidisha, also provided private tuition to students of classes 1 to 8. Police said the parents of five children came forward to file complaints against him after learning about his abusive actions.

According to Vidisha Superintendent of Police Rohit Keshwani, the matter came to light on Thursday when rumors spread about Raghuvanshi’s behaviour.

Parents confronted their children, who confirmed that the teacher had stopped them after tuition sessions and sexually assaulted them. He allegedly threatened to harm their families or fail them in school if they revealed the abuse.

The parents filed complaints at the local police station, and medical examinations conducted on the children late Thursday confirmed the sexual assault.

Raghuvanshi, who has been working at the school for three years, is married and has a one-year-old child. Parents revealed that the abuse had been ongoing for a long time, and some estimated that the number of victims could be as high as 20. However, due to social stigma, many families are hesitant to come forward.

Some parents also alleged that the teacher had recorded videos of the assaults. While investigators have not yet found these videos, the police plan to question Raghuvanshi further during his remand.

Superintendent Keshwani confirmed that Raghuvanshi has confessed to abusing other students and urged their families to file complaints. He also stressed the importance of providing counseling for the affected children to help them recover from the trauma.

This shocking incident has sparked outrage in Vidisha, highlighting concerns about student safety and the need for stricter monitoring of teachers' behaviour in schools.
