The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has approved the establishment of a white tiger breeding centre in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh. This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Sunday.
The breeding centre will be located in Govindgarh and is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for environmental protection and sustainable development. Shukla emphasised that the Madhya Pradesh government is focused on making the state a model for wildlife conservation.
He highlighted that this project is a major step in increasing the white tiger population, which is a rare species. The centre will not only ensure the safety of these tigers but also help increase their numbers.

Madhya Pradesh already has the highest tiger population in the country, and this initiative will further strengthen its leadership in wildlife conservation.
The location of the breeding centre is particularly meaningful because Rewa is historically associated with white tigers. In 1951, the first white tiger in India, named Mohan, was discovered in Rewa. The new centre will honor this legacy while contributing to biodiversity and conservation efforts.
With the approval from the CZA, the Madhya Pradesh government is expected to begin planning and implementing the project soon.
