A woman sarpanch in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch district allegedly gave up her official powers to a man by signing an agreement on a Rs 500 stamp paper. Authorities have taken notice of the incident and issued a warning.
Kailashi Bai Kachhawa, the sarpanch of Daata village, signed the agreement on January 24, handing over her responsibilities to a villager named Suresh Garasiya.
The document states that Garasiya will manage all panchayat duties, including government schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Kailashi Bai would only sign documents as instructed by him.
District Panchayat CEO Aman Vaishnav received a complaint about this and has issued a notice to remove Kailashi Bai from her position under Section 40 of the Panchayati Raj Act. She was asked to respond by Saturday. A show-cause notice has also been given to the village panchayat secretary.
The agreement, which has gone viral on social media, was signed by two witnesses. It also mentions a penalty, stating that anyone violating the contract must pay four times the damages (though no specific amount was mentioned).
Authorities are awaiting replies before taking further action.
