Former captain of Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been issued a traffic challan for over-speeding in Ranchi, barely a week after he received a notice from the state housing board over an alleged property norm violation.

According to an e-challan generated by Ranchi Traffic Police, Dhoni was fined Rs 1,000 after his vehicle was clocked at 91 kmph against the permitted speed limit of 60 kmph.

The violation was recorded on March 1 by an automated surveillance system installed near Birsa Agricultural University along the Kanke Ring Road.

Traffic officials stated that the city’s automated monitoring network operates round-the-clock across key intersections and on the ring road, detecting offences such as over-speeding and signal jumping.

Emphasising impartial enforcement, officials maintained that traffic rules apply equally to all, irrespective of status. There has been no official statement from Dhoni regarding the challan so far, though the incident has sparked discussion among local residents.

The development comes close on the heels of a notice served to Dhoni by the Jharkhand State Housing Board. The Board has alleged that a residential plot allotted in his name in Ranchi’s Harmu area is being used for commercial purposes.

The property, identified as Plot No. H-10 A, was reportedly sanctioned strictly for residential use. Authorities claim that a pathology laboratory is currently functioning from the premises, which they say violates allotment guidelines.

In its notice, the Board has sought a clarification from Dhoni, warning that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could result in a recommendation to cancel the allotment.

Dhoni, a Ranchi native known for his enthusiasm for high-end cars and motorcycles, has not yet issued any public response regarding either matter.
