The animal could be the same elephant that was seen a few days ago in the Hatia area of Ranchi. Since that sighting, fear had gripped nearby localities.

A 36-year-old man was killed in the latest incident of elephant attack in Ranchi on Tuesday. The deceased person was identified as Subodh Khalkho, who was trampled to death by the elephant in Ratu area of Ranchi district.

According to locals, Subodh had stepped out early in the morning for work when he encountered the animal. Before anyone could react, the elephant attacked him.

Villagers questioned how the wild elephant managed to reach a populated area from the forest.

They suspect the animal could be the same elephant that was seen a few days ago in the Hatia area of Ranchi. Since that sighting, fear had gripped nearby localities.

Its appearance in Ratu has further heightened concerns, with villagers warning that more damage could occur if timely action is not taken.

Following the incident, children have been stopped from venturing outside, and elderly residents have been advised to remain cautious. Pathways leading to the fields remained deserted.

Many villagers kept in touch over phone calls, while some monitored the elephant’s movement from rooftops using mobile phones, unwilling to take any risks.

Upon receiving information, Ratu police and forest department officials rushed into action. A team from the forest department has been deployed to monitor the elephant’s movement.

Authorities have appealed to residents not to spread rumours or attempt to drive the animal away on their own, urging them to maintain a safe distance and stay indoors until the situation is brought under control.
