A man wanted in a murder case was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Amritsar district on Monday.
The accused, Rajan alias Billa, was wanted for the murder of Manjit Singh, a grocery shop owner in Dhoolka village of Amritsar, on November 16.
Acting on a tip-off that Rajan was in the Rayya area of Amritsar, the police set up checkpoints in the area and intercepted his motorcycle. Rajan tried to escape, but when he could not, he opened fire at the police team, which also fired back at him. Rajan succumbed to his injuries in hospital. A police official was also injured in the exchange of fire.
