Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized that "concrete proof" is required to take action on bribery allegations involving Adani Green Energy Ltd and the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, sources revealed.

The allegations originate from US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, which mention an alleged 2021 meeting between Gautam Adani and then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. The filings also reference agreements involving the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

During an informal interaction with reporters, Naidu stated that while the Andhra Pradesh government is monitoring the situation, action can only be taken if wrongdoing is substantiated.

"More facts are coming to light," said Naidu. "We are considering the steps we can take as these details emerge. If there is wrongdoing, action must follow to ensure such mistakes are not repeated. However, without concrete proof, we cannot back out of existing contracts as it could lead to heavy penalties."

He also highlighted the Rs. 1,750 crore kickback allegedly offered to an Andhra Pradesh official to facilitate solar power purchases from SECI, as mentioned by the US Justice Department. However, the SEC filings do not specify the bribe amount or details of the alleged Adani-Jagan Reddy meeting.

Naidu further criticised the previous Jagan Reddy administration, claiming its mismanagement caused a Rs. 1.29 lakh crore loss in the state’s power sector.

"The sins committed by Jagan in the electricity sector are being exposed one by one," Naidu remarked. "Our government is working to fix these issues across all sectors."

In November, Naidu addressed similar allegations, promising to assess the situation and act based on evidence. Opposition parties have since demanded transparency and accountability from both the state and central governments.

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which governed Andhra Pradesh from 2019 to 2024 under Jagan Mohan Reddy, denied any wrongdoing. A party spokesperson maintained that there were no direct agreements between the state government and the Adani Group during their tenure.

The ongoing allegations, part of a larger bribery and fraud case involving Adani and associates, have sparked a political storm in Andhra Pradesh, raising questions about governance and accountability.
