Former Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu has openly flayed Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. She accused him of being disconnected from ground realities and failing to address corruption within the Punjab Congress unit.
Speaking at an event in Coimbatore, she said Rahul Gandhi’s inaction was weakening the party in Punjab. She stated that some people close to him were involved in selling party tickets, while he remained unaware of what was happening at the grassroots level.
“Rahul Gandhi speaks well and raises important issues, but there is a big gap between what he says and what he does,” she said. She added that she had been trying for the past eight months to get time to meet him to discuss what she called the declining condition of the party in Punjab.
She said she wanted to inform him that the leadership appointed in the state was not serving Punjab properly and that the party structure was being damaged. Sidhu also stated that election tickets had already been distributed in an unfair manner.
Questioning his leadership style, she said a true leader must stay connected to ground realities. According to her, anyone holding an important position should understand what is happening at the grassroots instead of depending only on advisers.
Sidhu stated that she was disappointed over broken political promises. She claimed that assurances given to her and her supporters were not fulfilled, and accused some party leaders of indulging in corrupt practices while publicly speaking against corruption.
Drawing a comparison, she referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said leaders must maintain personal integrity if they want to question corruption in others.
