The National Conference (NC) core working committee’s two-day meeting, which focused on the party’s recent poll debacle in Budgam, party’s internal affairs, general grievances, and overall administrative affairs in the UT, kicked off in Srinagar on Thursday.
The meeting, headed by National Conference supremo Farooq Abdullah himself, started at the party headquarters, Nawa-i-Subah, senior party leaders said here.
Among the prominent and contemporary issues concerning the ruling party are the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board-run University and student deadlock over the grant of admissions to Muslim students.
The second pressing issue is the recent poll debacle in the Budgam by-elections, where the party suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the People’s Democratic Party on November 14.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary, cabinet ministers, and senior party leaders are expected to attend the meeting. Leaders attending the meeting said that the party will hold a comprehensive deliberation on key affairs, public issues, ongoing political activities, and other matters of the organisation.
The meeting will be focusing on strengthening the party’s outreach, assessing the ongoing developments and planning the future course of action, they said.
According to senior party figures, the meeting will also discuss the role Aga Mehdi is expected to play in the party’s future endeavours. However, Aga Ruhullah will not be attending the meeting, said sources familiar with the development.
