A newly married couple was apprehended in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, after police recovered 21.01 grams of ‘chitta’ (adulterated heroin) from them. The accused, Arun Bhatti and Parul Guleria, both residents of Mandi, had recently tied the knot. They were arrested on Tuesday, police said.
According to officials, the police received a tip-off that some people staying at a hotel in Sundernagar were involved in drug trafficking.
Acting on the information, a police team reached the hotel and carried out a search. The couple was found with the contraband, and Rs 19,510 in cash was also recovered from their possession.
Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Vinod Kumar, confirmed the arrests. He said a case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is in progress.
