Noted Malayalam actor-director and scriptwriter, Sreenivasan, died at a private hospital in Kochi on Saturday morning, film industry sources said. He was 69.
He was admitted to the hospital at Tripunithura on Friday night for health complications, but had been after suffering from cardiac and other ailments for some time.
He is survived by his wife, Vimala Sreenivasan, sons and actors Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.
Born on April 6, 1956, at Patyam near Thalassery in Kannur district, Sreenivasan had been staying in Kochi for the past several years.
He had acted in over 225 films in five decades, debuting with ‘Manimuzhakkam’ in 1976. Some of his most celebrated works include Sandesham, Azhakiya Ravanan, Varavelpu, and Nadodikattu.
Apart from acting, he was also a director, screenwriter, dubbing artist, and producer. He had received several awards, including a National Film Award, and six Kerala State Film Awards.
