NEET aspirants in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday raised strong objections over the alleged paper leak. They demanded Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and held him responsible for the situation. They also demanded that the National Testing Agency (NTA)be immediately dissolved, citing unfair conduct in examination.
The Students Federation of India (SFI) at Himachal Pradesh University held a demonstration in Summerhill near the university main gate and burned the NTA’s effigy. They sought a detailed investigation by a high-level committee led by a retired Supreme Court judge.
While addressing mediapersons in Hamirpur, the NSUI president Tony Thakur sought Pradhan’s resignation on “moral grounds” and called for a complete ban on the NTA. Meanwhile, NEET aspirants who appeared for the exam are deeply distressed over the situation.
Sonesh Thakur from Kullu said he had been preparing for NEET for one year, but the news of the paper leak broke his hopes and dreams. He said stringent rules are imposed on students during exams, and the NTA should also have ensured strong security in handling question papers to prevent such incidents.
Bhumika Thakur, another NEET aspirant from Kullu, said she prepared day and night after taking coaching and staying fully focused on her studies.
“I stayed away from friends and family so I could focus on my preparation. Now the paper leak and cancellation have left me devastated, as I have to start again. There is no guarantee it will not happen again,” she said.
Another aspirant from Kullu said many students who appeared for NEET come from ordinary families and spend large amounts on coaching. “Such paper leak incidents have destroyed the future of lakhs of students across the country. Students had prepared with full honesty and hard work,” the student added.
