Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurates the 132nd National Dussehra Fair in the parliamentary constituency of Kota, Rajasthan.

Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla inaugurated the 132nd National Dussehra Mela in Kota, as fireworks illuminated the sky to mark the beginning of the historic fair.

Addressing the gathering, Birla said the fair, which is over a century old, is an example of the cultural heritage, unity, and economic prosperity of the people. He noted that this year’s event is also being celebrated as a ‘savings festival’ (bachat utsav) across India, an idea put forward by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the reduction in GST rates on several essential items.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Birla said the reduced rates would help people save money. He also highlighted that the fair would showcase handicrafts and other indigenous products from various parts of the country. He underscored that the growing strength of native goods is leading India towards self-reliance.

This sentiment echoed the Prime Minister’s recent remarks that 'Swadeshi' will empower the country in the same way it fuelled the freedom movement.
