Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday rejected Union minister JP Nadda's claim linking his government to the Staff Selection Board (SSB) paper leak. Omar said the incident took place in 2022, when the Union Territory was under the administration of the Lieutenant Governor, well before his government came to power.
He was responding to comments made by Nadda at a press conference on Wednesday. The Union Health Minister had accused the National Conference and Congress of staying silent on cases involving examination paper leaks.
" You are absolutely correct about the SSB paper leak in J&K @JPNadda ji but you have got the date wrong. It was 2022. The government wasn't of NC and Congress. It was a government headed by Lt Governor but thank you for reminding everyone of this failure. It involved these observations & orders of the J&K High Court,” Omar said in a post on X.
He said the National Conference-Congress government was not in power at the time. Instead, the administration was headed by the Lieutenant Governor. Abdullah also thanked Nadda for reminding people about the issue.
Omar shared part of an order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. The court had directed the LG-led administration to set up a high-level committee headed by a retired High Court judge to investigate alleged serious irregularities in the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).
He also questioned the status of the committee and its findings. He said the government had no information about what happened to the panel or its report and suggested that Nadda could provide an update at his next press conference.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had cancelled several recruitment examinations conducted by the JKSSB in 2022. The exams included those for sub-inspectors, junior engineers and finance accounts assistants. The decision followed widespread allegations of paper leaks and corruption.
