A man has been arrested in Punjab with counterfeit currency worth ₹2.15 lakh along with a cache of arms and ammunition, the Punjab Police announced on Monday. The accused, identified as Jarman Singh, was apprehended by the Amritsar Rural Police following an intelligence-based operation.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrest in a post on X, stating that the recovery included one Glock 9mm pistol, one .30 calibre pistol, three magazines, and counterfeit notes amounting to ₹2,15,500.
According to preliminary investigations, the recovered consignment is suspected to have been sent by operatives of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in an attempt to destabilize the region and incite unrest.
A case has been registered against the accused at Gharinda police station in Amritsar. Authorities are now conducting further investigations to uncover the broader network involved, including both forward and backward linkages associated with the smuggling and intended distribution of the counterfeit currency and arms.
