The Amritsar Rural Police have successfully cracked a snatching case involving a Russian national who was looted by two motorcycle-borne assailants nearly 15 days ago.

The victim, identified as Valentine, was travelling from Jalandhar to Amritsar on his bicycle on March 20. As he approached Mallian village, he stopped briefly to take medicine from his bag.

At that moment, two masked individuals on a bike approached him from behind and snatched his carry bag, which contained important belongings including his passport, other documents, a mobile phone, Rs 2,000 in cash, and 192 US dollars. Valentine later filed a formal complaint with the Jandiala police.

Following the registration of the FIR, police teams immediately initiated an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. During the investigation, the suspects were identified as Chand Singh and Nishan Singh, both residents of Rayya.

According to the police, the accused are drug addicts who resorted to snatching to fund their daily drug habits. Both were arrested and have been placed under police remand for further interrogation. The police have also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime and are continuing efforts to retrieve the other stolen items, including the mobile phone and passport.

In a separate incident, the Majitha Road Police under the Amritsar Police Commissionerate arrested three individuals involved in another snatching case.

The accused were identified as Mohit Kumar and Shubham, both residents of Sanjay Gandhi Colony on Fatehgarh Churian Road, and Arshdeep Singh alias Mani, a native of Gaggomahal village currently residing in Preet Enclave, Fatehgarh Churian Road.

The arrests came swiftly—within four hours of the crime. The police recovered a snatched mobile phone and a motorcycle bearing a fake registration number used in the crime.

The complainant, Dimple Sharma from Rishi Vihar, informed the police that she was on her way to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh when the incident occurred.

As she entered Majitha Road, three assailants on a motorcycle snatched her mobile phone. According to Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal, SHO of the Majitha Road Police Station, the accused were presented in court and subsequently placed under police remand for further investigation.
