A court in Kurukshetra has sentenced a man convicted of opium trafficking to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The judgment was delivered by the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, with the Fast Track Special Court for cases under the NDPS Act, presided over by Amit Sahrawat, finding Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, guilty under Section 18 of the NDPS Act.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on the convict. According to details, on January 18, 2022, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Kurukshetra Police received a tip-off regarding a truck driver from Himachal Pradesh allegedly involved in smuggling opium. The accused used to transport goods from Himachal Pradesh to West Bengal and carry narcotics on the return journey.

Acting on the information, the police located the truck parked near a roadside eatery along National Highway 44. Upon inspection, officials recovered approximately 4.5 kilograms of opium from the vehicle.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against the accused at Thanesar Sadar Police Station under the provisions of the NDPS Act, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
