A massive fire broke out at Asal Resort, a famous tourist spot in Pahalgam, early on Tuesday. While no casualties were reported from the blaze itself, an employee of a nearby hotel was killed after being hit by a reversing fire tender, following the firefighting operation.
The fire engulfed three structures of the hotel and one vehicle. Several fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames. Explosions from LPG cylinders at the site increased the difficulty for firefighters and delayed the operation.
The situation was eventually brought under control, though three hotel structures and a vehicle were damaged in the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Earlier in February, a devastating fire swept through the main market of Bandipora, affecting 35 structures, including a multi-storey commercial complex. No lives were lost, but financial losses were estimated in crores.
In 2025, Jammu and Kashmir recorded a total of 6,039 fire incidents, according to official data from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department.
This marked a significant 25 per cent decrease compared to 2024, when 8,033 incidents were recorded.
