Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr have arrested a Pakistani national who had allegedly been living in India for nearly 40 years using forged identity documents, officials said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Syed Wasit Ali, was residing in the Sushila Vihar area while concealing his identity. According to police, forged documents including an Aadhaar card and a driving licence bearing a Bulandshahr address were recovered from his possession, along with a photocopy of a Pakistani passport.
Station House Officer Dharmendra Rathore said the arrest was made during a late-night patrol conducted by a team led by Sub-Inspector Mohit Kumar. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he is the son of Syed Laiq Ahmed and hails from Karachi, Pakistan. He admitted to being a Pakistani national and stated that he had procured fake Indian identity documents after failing to obtain a long-term visa.
Police said Ali had come to India with his mother, Bilqis, following her second marriage to a resident of Sainthla in Bulandshahr. According to his statement, his mother had divorced in Karachi before relocating. He had arrived along with his three sisters, two of whom were granted long-term visas, while his own application remains pending.
Investigations further revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record. In 2012, he was arrested by Brahmpuri police in Meerut under provisions of the Foreigners Act and was sent to jail.
Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh said a case has been registered and authorities are now probing the network that may have assisted in preparing the forged documents. SP City Abhishek Pratap Ajay said the accused had reportedly been living in India for nearly 40 years and was arrested near the Numaishey flyover by Kotwali Nagar police.
Further investigation is underway to identify possible local links and verify the extent of document forgery involved in the case.
