Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday said Pakistan’s repeated attempts to disrupt peace and normal life in the region would not succeed, as security forces have effectively countered every challenge posed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Speaking at the 77th Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, Choudhary said the responsibility of the security forces had increased significantly, particularly in addressing the rising menace of drug and narcotics abuse among the youth of the Union Territory.

He paid rich tributes to the security forces and police personnel who have laid down their lives for the nation, enabling ordinary citizens to live in a peaceful environment.

Choudhary stated that Pakistan has caused immense hardships to Jammu and Kashmir by trying to destabilise the region and undermine its progress.

He praised the unwavering commitment of the security forces in protecting national sovereignty and asserted, “Despite Pakistan’s repeated attempts to damage Kashmir and its tourism, security forces will never allow these to succeed.”

He emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir has left its troubled past behind and is moving forward in the right direction under the current government.

Choudhary urged tourists from across the country and abroad to visit Kashmir and contribute to the region’s overall development.

He highlighted drug menace as a massive issue confronting the Union Territory and said the government is offering various welfare schemes and skill-based training courses to encourage youth participation in regional progress.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir aims to transform the Union Territory into a skill hub of North India by 2030, he stressed.

Towards the end of his address, Choudhary said development, strengthening peace on the ground, and focused participation of youth in regional progress would remain at the core of National Conference’s policies going forward.
