At least one foreign terrorist of Pakistani origin was killed in an encounter after security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.
In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps stated, “Based on specific intelligence input provided by #JKP regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched on the intervening night of 14-15 Mar 26 in the Gen area Buchhar, Uri sector.”
Troops spotted suspicious movement of a terrorist in a thicket area during the night.
The ambush was readjusted, and when the terrorist was challenged, he opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing contact, the Pakistani terrorist was eliminated.
Warlike stores recovered from the site include an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition.
In a separate incident on Saturday, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) lost his life during an anti-terrorist operation in Poonch district.
The Army’s White Knight Corps posted on X, “While operating in the challenging and rugged terrain during prolonged operations in the general area of Poonch, as part of Operation Sheri Kalan, today at about 2.30 pm, Subedar Sandeep Kumar Dhaka slipped and fell on the ground and subsequently became unresponsive.
“He was immediately evacuated to the Military Hospital at Potha. Despite determined medical efforts to revive him, the gallant JCO lost his life in the line of duty.”
