Parameshwara denies claims of Surjewala acting as 'super CM'

Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday dismissed any involvement by AICC general secretary in-charge of the state, Randeep Singh Surjewal in administration, as he called opposition parties terming him "super CM" mere allegations, which is far from reality. He asserted as party general secretary in-charge, Surjewala's frequent visits to the state are natural, as he needs to keep an eye on whether the Congress government is fulfilling promises given to people in its poll-bound manifesto.

As Surjewala was holding a series of one-to-one interactions with ruling party MLAs and ministers recently, opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (Secular) took a jab at Congress, terming him "super CM".

They had also asserted that the Congress high command, having lost all faith in CM Siddaramaiah, has established a "Randeep rule" in Karnataka.

Responding to a query on the criticism of opposition terming Surjewala as "Super CM", Parameshwara said, "They are just allegations. There is no reality to it. Surjewala is our party general secretary in-charge. He has been appointed by AICC. There is nothing new in it. He was present even before the elections and even now."

Of course, he continues to pay visits to the state to check if the government is implementing promises made by the party in the manifesto prior to elections. Addressing mediapersons here, he made it clear that Surjewala has not called any officials for a meeting nor has issued any orders to them. There is no interference in the administration by him.

"The BJP and JD(S) are intentionally levelling unnecessary allegations and nothing is true about it," he said.

There were allegations of Surjewala meeting some of the state government officials, but those have been refuted by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar.

To a question, Parameshwara said Surjewala meeting individually with MLAs and ministers is an internal affair of the Congress party.

"What is the BJP's role in it? Don't their party general secretaries come to the state and meet the BJP leaders and workers here? Likewise, our general secretaries also come. Our party should verify whether we are implementing the promises given to the people or not," he said.
