Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to return to West Bengal on Sunday to intensify the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign ahead of the second and final phase of the Assembly elections, with rallies and a major roadshow lined up in and around Kolkata.
Despite having left for Delhi on Friday, Modi will resume campaigning after a brief break, focusing on Kolkata and adjoining districts at a time when the electoral contest has entered a decisive stage.
According to party sources, the Prime Minister will begin his engagements with a public rally at Thakurnagar around 2:15 pm. He is then scheduled to travel to Arambagh in Hooghly district to address another gathering in the Haripal area at approximately 3:45 pm.
Later in the evening, Modi will lead a high-profile roadshow in Kolkata, aimed at boosting support for BJP candidates in the final leg of campaigning.
The roadshow is expected to begin from B.K. Pal Avenue and proceed up to Khanna Crossing, covering key stretches of North Kolkata. The procession is likely to start around 5:30 pm and conclude by 7:30 pm, with authorities anticipating traffic disruptions across several parts of the city during this period.
The first phase of polling, held on April 23 across 152 constituencies, recorded a turnout of 92.88 per cent. The remaining 142 constituencies are scheduled to vote in the second phase on April 29, with the Election Commission putting in place extensive security arrangements, including the deployment of central forces.

In recent weeks, Modi has made multiple visits to the state, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also maintained a sustained presence, overseeing the BJP’s campaign efforts on the ground.
Political observers believe that the Prime Minister’s swift return to Kolkata, particularly for a large-scale roadshow, could provide a crucial boost to the party’s momentum in the closing stages of the campaign.
During his previous rally in Panihati, Modi had addressed the controversy surrounding the R.G. Kar Medical College incident, drawing significant attention. It remains to be seen whether he introduces a fresh narrative during Sunday’s engagements.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has intensified her counter-campaign, holding back-to-back rallies in her constituency, Bhabanipur.
With both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress stepping up outreach efforts, the electoral battle in West Bengal has entered a high-stakes final phase ahead of polling.
