Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled the unfinished task of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s national unification by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution.
Flagging off the ‘Run for Unity’ in Fatehabad on the 150th birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Patel, Saini said Patel’s contribution in merging 562 princely states into the Indian Union was historic and unmatched.
He said that since 2014, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31 has been celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day to honour his legacy and vision of a united India.
Addressing participants at the event in Fatehabad, the Chief Minister described Patel as a great nationalist and an able administrator who laid the foundation of India’s unity and strength.
Saini praised Prime Minister Modi for the abrogation of Article 370, which earlier granted special status and autonomy to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The remaining work of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's national unification has been completed in present times by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by abrogating Articles 370 and 35(A),” Saini said.
He further lauded the Prime Minister for honouring Sardar Patel’s legacy through various initiatives, including the installation of the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada district, which he said would continue to inspire future generations.
Saini added that apart from Fatehabad, ‘Run for Unity’ events were being organised across Haryana, with lakhs of citizens participating to celebrate national unity and harmony.
Several Ministers and other public representatives also joined the events at various district headquarters, reinforcing the message of oneness and patriotism.
"It (Run for Unity) reminds us that our diversity is our strength. We may speak different languages, wear different attire, celebrate different customs, but we are all one," Saini said.
