The Punjab BJP has said it has not received any official information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reported visit to the state. The statement comes after Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu claimed that the Prime Minister is expected to visit Punjab later this month.
Addressing reporters on Friday evening, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said the party's state unit had not been informed about any proposed tour. He added that no official schedule or communication had been shared with the organisation so far.
A day earlier, Bittu had said Modi was likely to travel to Punjab to inaugurate a number of development projects. He made the remark while responding to questions on the Congress's recent organisational changes in the state. However, when asked about Bittu's comments, Dhillon maintained that the party was still awaiting formal confirmation.
A BJP source said details of the Prime Minister's visit, if any, would be made public once the programme receives official approval.
