Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha has termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bihar as a decisive step in the state’s development.

Speaking on Sunday, Sinha emphasised that the Prime Minister’s visit, particularly for farmers, would mark a significant milestone in transforming Bihar’s future. Highlighting Modi’s pro-farmer policies, Sinha stated that while previous Prime Ministers spoke about support and subsidies for farmers, Modi is the first leader who has prioritised their dignity and financial stability.

He pointed out that the Prime Minister, from the land of Bhagalpur, will release the 19th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, transferring ₹22,000 crore to the accounts of 9.8 crore farmers across the country.

Since the scheme’s launch in 2019, nearly ₹3.5 lakh crore has been distributed, benefiting over 11.8 crore farmer families.

Sinha credited the NDA government’s decade-long efforts in strengthening agricultural entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and farmer welfare. He also highlighted how Modi’s decision to rename the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare reflects a shift in governance towards empowering farmers.

Key projects and farmer-centric initiatives

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that the Prime Minister’s agricultural policies primarily focus on small, marginal, and women farmers.

Initiatives such as the Soil Health Card, Drip Irrigation Project, Kisan Samman Nidhi, Agricultural Production Organization, improved seed programmes, sustainable farming, and credit guarantee schemes aim to uplift these groups.

Sinha further added that Bihar’s economy is predominantly agriculture-based, with over 85 per cent of its farmers belonging to the small and marginal category. During his visit, Modi will not only transfer financial aid to farmers but also inaugurate several key projects, including:

  • Barauni Dairy Plant
  • Regional Center of Excellence of the Gokul Mission in Motihari
  • Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) initiatives
  • Bhagalpur’s transformation into an agricultural hub

In addition, the state will witness its largest-ever farmers' conference, featuring agricultural entrepreneurs, technical experts, startups, aspiring youth, and women participants.

According to Sinha, this visit will have a direct impact on Bihar’s agricultural landscape, ensuring long-term development. He assured that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state government would implement Modi’s vision effectively.

Prashant Kishore alleges political motives behind Modi’s visit

Meanwhile, Jansuraj founder Prashant Kishore (PK) criticised Modi’s visit, calling it a pre-election strategy. Speaking to reporters in Patna, Kishore claimed that the Prime Minister visits Bihar only when elections are near.

He alleged that Modi has failed to prioritise Bihar in the past decade and is now including the state in his schedule solely due to the upcoming elections, expected in October-November.

Kishore remarked, “Earlier, he had no interest in Bihar and focused on electoral states like Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Haryana. Now, with Bihar elections approaching, he is suddenly showing concern. But the people of Bihar have understood his real intentions.”

Furthermore, Kishore expressed doubt over the NDA’s chances of retaining power in Bihar, asserting that the public has lost faith in their leadership.

When asked about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, and his potential entry into politics, Kishore declined to comment, stating that it would be inappropriate to discuss someone who is not actively involved in politics.

PM Modi’s visit has sparked contrasting reactions in Bihar’s political landscape. While Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha hails it as a historic and transformative step for farmers and the state’s economy, Prashant Kishore dismisses it as an electoral gimmick.

With key agricultural announcements and major project inaugurations on the agenda, the visit is expected to shape Bihar’s political and economic trajectory in the coming months.
