A 2.6-kilometre stretch lined with Neem saplings has been specially prepared in Numaligarh, Assam’s Golaghat district, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s passage during his visit on Sunday.
The initiative, dubbed the ‘PM Neem Corridor’, forms part of Modi’s itinerary as he tours the upper Assam district to visit the Numaligarh Refinery and inaugurate a bamboo-based ethanol plant worth over Rs 5,000 crore. He is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit, capable of producing 360 KTPA of propylene.
The corridor has been described as “A Green Tribute to India's biggest green warrior - Adarniya @narendramodi ji,” by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared the announcement on X along with a video clip of the 2.6-km stretch. “On September 14, as the Hon'ble Prime Minister makes his way to the venue in Golaghat, he will be welcomed through the PM Neem Corridor,” he added.
The initiative is spearheaded by Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia. The chief minister also planted a seed during a preparatory visit to Numaligarh last week. Saikia said the corridor is intended to promote environmental awareness and inspire younger generations to engage in conservation efforts.
The PM arrived in Guwahati on Saturday for a two-day visit to the state, where he will attend a special tribute meeting for legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika and inaugurate projects worth over Rs 19,000 crore, officials said.
Modi was received at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and members of the state cabinet.
He arrived from Manipur, where he visited Churachandpur and Imphal, and drove directly to the Bhupen Hazarika centenary celebrations at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara. He will spend the night at the State Guest House in Guwahati.
